In half an hour (3pm EST), MotoGP takes on the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Last year's rookie sensation and eventual series champion, Marc Marquez, starts from the pole, having qualified o.3 seconds ahead of teammate Dani Pedrosa. Marquez also won the first race of the season in Qatar in a battle to the flag with Valentino Rossi, who starts today's race in 7th.

Marquez looks to be the favourite in the race, setting times in practice almost a second ahead of his nearest rival, but if the first race of the season is any indication, we shouldn't read too far into that.

Like F1, the MotoGP has seen several technical changes this year, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Live Blog - let's see how this goes:

Lap 5 - The lead Hondas are swapping quick lap times, Marquez in the lead, followed by Pedrosa. Lorenzo was in the lead briefly but has been penalized for jumping the start. Valentino Rossi is battling his was through the field, as he did in Qatar, and is up to 4th after losing a couple of spots from his 7th slot on the grid.

Lap 11 - Lorenzo is working his way back through the field after his drivethrough penalty, he's up to 14th, just passed Collin Edwards who announced this weekend that he will retire at the end of the 2014 season. Rossi's march through the field has come to an apparent end and has fallen back to 8th. The commentators are speculating that he's struggling with the front tire. Marquez leads by 3 seconds.

Lap 12 - Teams are preparing the backup bikes for action in the event of rain. If this happens, the white flag will fly and the riders will come in to swap bikes.

Lap 17 - Iannone and Bradl are battling for 3rd. They are 12 seconds behind the lead pair of Hondas, themselves separated by about 4 seconds. Lorenzo is up to 10th, having just passed the other American in the field, Nicky Hayden. Rossi seems to have steadied in 8th.

Lap 19 - Dovizioso is now in third, followed by Bradl and Iannone. The three are covered by 0.8 seconds. Marquez now leads by 5 seconds who is 16 seconds clear of that excellent battle for third. Bradley Smith is sniffing at that battle as well from 6th.

Final Result - Marquez is clearly the class of the field, taking a comfortable win despite having a bit of a scare/bobble in the final corner. Pedrosa cruises home in second, Dovizioso secures third, Bradl takes fourth hounded to the line by Smith. Pol Espargaro finishes in sixth ahead of Iannone, Rossi, Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo to complete the top 10.

All I can say is "nooooooooooooo!" I was hoping Edwards would at least make a good run at his last race in MotoGP here, but he retired early into the fence-hole I was using for photos.

I am going to be mortified if me trying to fish out a PotatoCam (would've been faster than swapping lenses) from underneath Fluffy in my purse ended up on any of the video feeds. Mortified.

Lesson of the day: always keep your iPotato within reach, especially if you swapped a longer lens onto your real camera.

Either way, Fluffy is now banished to the media center during trackside shots. Sorry, Puff. Haha.
